Survival Through Syncretism

Day 15 – The Sacred Art of Camouflage

The Waxing Crescent Moon in Sagittarius rises tonight, carrying the spark of revelation and the courage to speak truth without apology. For me — a Sagittarius Sun — that truth is simple:

We have survived by adapting our light.

When colonizers tried to extinguish the faith and ceremony of the Indigenous and African peoples of the Caribbean, the Taíno and their descendants learned the sacred art of camouflage. Their deities took new forms, their songs shifted language, but their essence remained.

✨ Faith in Disguise

The Taíno hid their gods beneath Catholic saints — a divine sleight of hand that ensured survival. Atabey, the Mother of Waters, became the Virgin Mary. Yúcahu, the Sun and Giver of Cassava, found refuge in St. Isidore. Their rituals moved indoors, their prayers changed vocabulary — but their spirits never left.

This is syncretism: the blending of spiritual lineages not to dilute them, but to preserve them. It’s the same current that flows through Santería, Espiritismo, Curanderismo, and folk Catholicism — living testaments to the resilience of spirit under oppression.

💫 The Personal Camouflage

As someone with AuDHD, I understand camouflage in another way.

Growing up, I learned to “mask” — to move carefully, mimic patterns, and blend into environments that couldn’t yet understand my wiring.

Later, I realized this isn’t just a neurodivergent experience. Many souls who are awakening—who are ascending into greater awareness—have learned to mask their light around those who still live by limitation.

Like the Taíno hiding Atabey under Mary’s veil, we sometimes hide our divinity behind small talk, conformity, or silence—not because we are ashamed, but because we are strategic.

It’s a sacred kind of survival.

🌙 Camouflage as Wisdom, Not Weakness

Camouflage doesn’t mean you are pretending. It means you are protecting your frequency until the environment is safe enough for your truth to flourish.

The Taíno didn’t lose their gods — they camouflaged them.

Neurodivergent souls don’t lose their authenticity — they shield it until they find resonance.

And awakened beings don’t hide their light — they seed it where it can take root.

🕯️ From Masking to Mastery

Over time, what was once a survival skill becomes mastery. When we remember that all paths lead back to Source, we no longer need to choose between parts of ourselves — Catholic or Pagan, neurodivergent or intuitive, human or divine. We realize we are all of it.

That’s why my faith, my craft, and my coaching all flow from the same vow:

Being Human with Spirit.

It’s the full circle of syncretism — integration instead of separation.

🌺

Reflection & Invitation

Take a moment to honor the ways you’ve camouflaged your brilliance to survive.

💫 Ask: Where am I now safe enough to unmask? Where can I let my spirit speak openly again?

Remember, even the stars hide in daylight — not because they’re gone, but because they know when it’s their time to shine.
